Thorne Coaching was founded in early 2019 by Mike Thorne and we are playing our part to ensure that every director and senior leader from a technical discipline has the confidence and skills they need to maximise their impact in the workplace.
We are building a strong reputation for high quality coaching of senior leaders and leadership teams across the UK and internationally.
A career in engineering…
Starting as an electrical engineering graduate, I had a diverse 30-year career working in large engineering businesses in the energy sector, where I achieved my Chartered Engineer status.
As a middle/senior leader in a FTSE100 energy company, I ran engineering, commercial and regulatory teams, where I used coaching to support the delivery of high-profile projects. These were for our customers, UK government and regulatory authorities, with several years close working with my European counterparts, mainly in Brussels.
If you speak to any of them, they’ll tell you I quickly build strong and effective working relationships with customers, clients and colleagues.
…but coaching as a way of life
Coaching has always been an essential element of how I work, long before I knew it was called coaching.
I have a Diploma in Coaching and a Certificate in Team Coaching and I am also a member of the Association for Coaching.
But before all this, I regularly found myself coaching colleagues and team members with positive results. I also coached extensively outside work, including in a pastoral care context for a local church, as well as with friends and my now grown-up family.
